Overview

The IT Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of Microsoft server operating systems in a multi-site, routed Cisco-based network. The Administrator creates user accounts and mailboxes, troubleshoots operating system and service issues, troubleshoots complex active directory issues and “owns” Windows server administration. The Administrator also provides guidance and acts as a technical escalation point to staff providing helpdesk support (desktop and hardware). The role participates in an on-call rotation to provide support for critical systems after normal operating hours.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day maintenance of Microsoft server operating systems, both physical and virtual
  • Provides day-to-day maintenance for storage appliances
  • Maintains and operates employee and student email systems
  • Provides technical leadership and support for IT security and the Fortinet Firewalls
  • Responsible for identity management, including the creation of user accounts, mailboxes, active directory and Azure accounts
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining user accounts in Ellucian Colleague
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining user and team accounts in Entrinsic Informer, version 5
  • Troubleshoots complex active directory issues
  • Provides guidance and acts as technical escalation point to helpdesk staff
  • Participates in on-call rotation to provide 24×7 coverage for critical systems

Supervisory Responsibilities: None, but may be called upon to supervise occasional student workers or temporary employees

  • Strong Windows Active Directory – knowledge of AD tools, replication, FRS, group policy.
  • Experience supporting Intel servers (Dell, HP, IBM)
  • Strong Microsoft server (2008 and later) skills.
  • Microsoft Exchange server skills, including gateways, front-end servers, and Outlook Web Access.
  • Abiity to work with Google Apps, including account creation, bulk loading, and troubleshooting.
  • Act as a backup to the Network and Support analyst to provide support for Cisco networking, including switches, routers, firewalls, VPN.
  • Troubleshooting ability – can break down complex technical challenges and troubleshoot to resolution independently.
  • Self-starter that can work with little to no direct supervision.
  • Customer focused and team oriented attitude.
  • Constantly monitors help-desk activity and satisfies help desk requests as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates who make application within established recruitment dates are required to meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for employment. Minimum qualifications are the absolute smallest amount of experience and education that provide the ability to determine if the candidate could potentially perform well in the position. Preferred are the qualifications that enable a candidate to potentially excel in the position.

  • Relevant four-year degree or equivalent education, experience, and certifications.
  • 3+ years supporting Intel server hardware (Dell/HP/IBM) including storage arrays.
  • 3+ years managing/administering a Windows Active Directory (2008 or later) environment.
  • 3+ years Microsoft server operating system administration (permissions, FRS, group policies, etc).
  • 3+ years Microsoft Exchange (2007 or later) administration.
  • 3+ years desktop support in a Windows (Vista and later) and environment

Preferred Qualification Required

  • 1+ year’s experience with Ellucian Colleague
  • 1+ year’s experience with Entrinsic Informer or similar ERP reporting tool
  • Symantec AntiVirus and Endpoint Protection administration.
  • VMWare (3.x/4.x) knowledge and administration.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate storage area networks
  • Experience with hosted applications (Google Apps, gmail, etc).
  • Experience working with a helpdesk “ticket” system.
  • 3+ years Cisco networking experience, including switches, routers, VPNs, firewalls.
  • 1+ years supervising desktop support (helpdesk) technicians.
  • 1+ year’s MAC desktop support.
